Hikes are the perfect remedy for a long week’s work or a hangover from last night’s festivities. They are always a very good way to explore and experience the nature Los Angeles has to offer.
Although there are not many hiking trails in the Marina area do not let this discourage you! The west side is full of hiking adventure!
Malibu Creek State Park (M*A*S*H Trail) is a no-dogs allowed trail which starts off flat and turns into an adventure of boulders and desolate surroundings of old TV series. There are worthwhile detours including a rock pool, climbing wall and a manmade lake that may be recognizable from old TV shows.
20th Century Fox purchased this 4,000 acre property in the late 40s and sold it to the state of California in 1974. It was used for movies such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Dr Dolittle and Fantasy Island.
It opened to public in 1976.
DIRECTIONS: From Ventura Freeway 101, exit at Las Virgenes Road and head south 4 miles to Malibu Creek State Park. The entrance is on the right. Follow the entrance road to the far western corner of the lot, near the restroom.
